Man charged with attempted murder in shooting near Broad River Road

Deputies charged a man with attempted murder after they say he shot an acquaintance multiple times Sunday night.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired at an apartment complex at 801 Chinquapin Road, just off Broad River Road, shortly before 11 p.m. They found a victim suffering multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

An acquaintance of the victim, Henry O’Bryant, 59, was charged with attempted murder. O’Bryant shot the victim after an altercation, sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Curtis Wilson said.

The victim’s injuries were not life threatening, Wilson said. Responders took the victim to Palmetto Health Richland.

O’Bryant was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
