Store’s motorized scooter used to carry stolen beer
Three people were charged with shoplifting after the brazen theft of 4 24-packs of Bud Light beer Wednesday night as grocery store employees were preparing to close.
Camden police were called to the Piggly Wiggly on East DeKalb Street shortly before the store’s 9 p.m. closing time, the incident report stated.
An employee told officers that a man came into the grocery store and using a store owned motorized scooter drive back to the alcoholic beverage section, loaded up 4 24-packs of beer and drove out of the store without paying.
The beer was loaded into a white Taurus parked outside and the car drove away.
A witness followed the car to a nearby gas station which is where Camden police found it parked. Inside the car were Roger Belton, 51, of Columbia, Deborah King, 53, of Camden and the suspected beer thief, Alexander Graham, 42, of Camden.
All three were charged with shoplifting $71.96 worth of beer.
