Irmo home meth lab busted by Richland County Sheriff’s Department, suspect arrested

A man was arrested on Saturday night and charged with running a meth lab at a residence by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Daniel Helm, 38, has been charged with drug manufacturing and distribution of methamphetamine, said public information liaison Lt. Curtis Wilson.

Helm was arrested at 136 Devonport Drive in Irmo, about a mile from Dutch Fork High School, after deputies arrived around 7:30 p.m. according to Wilson, who said drug paraphernalia was discovered and deputies determined the suspect was cooking meth in a shed.

A Richland County deputy was taken to an area hospital for medical treatment, Wilson said.
