Argument over ‘sugar daddy’ led to woman dousing man in bleach, cops say
A West Columbia man told police his girlfriend threw bleach on him twice after she came home with a “sugar daddy” and the couple argued about it.
The incident happened at about 10 p.m. Aug. 13. When police responded, the victim was visibly covered in liquid and there was a strong smell of bleach, according to the West Columbia Police Department incident report.
The man “was complaining of his eyes burning and shortness of breath from the bleach in his airways and eyes,” the report says. Police called EMS to respond.
The victim told law enforcement that after arguing with his girlfriend inside the home, he walked outside to deescalate the situation. When he tried to come back into the home through the back door, that’s when she threw bleach in his face – then filled up a small tub and doused him a second time, he told police.
At the back of the home, officers found a bleach bottle and a container “believed to be the one used to toss bleach on the victim.”
When police made contact with the man’s girlfriend – Diona Martinez, 24 – she told law enforcement that she had been out with her “sugar daddy” and that the two had argued about her living with the victim, according to the incident report. Then, she told police, her sugar daddy drove her home – and her boyfriend was at the residence.
During the investigation, officers noted that Martinez was barefoot, and that a TV on the ground had a bare footprint on it. Martinez told police she and the victim had argued and the TV must have fallen over during their “shuffling around.” Police arrested Martinez and charged her with domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.
