New school opening in Cayce
Classes start Thursday at the new Cayce Elementary School for 970 students.
The $29.5 million school off 12th Street near Taylor Road is the first built in Lexington 2 in 12 years. It was built as part of a $225 million package of new facilities and renovations for schools in the Cayce-West Columbia area that voters approved in November 2014.
Teachers have been preparing classrooms during the past week for the arrival of students.
The 153,000-square-foot school, equipped with modern technology, is designed for 1,200 students in kindergarten through 5th grades.
