Why the name of the newest school in West Columbia sounds familiar
The name of a new school is West Columbia has a familiar ring.
It will be called Riverbank Elementary even though the school under construction is a half mile from the lower Saluda River and Riverbanks Zoo.
Classes are scheduled to begin at the school in fall 2018.
Zoo officials have no problem with the similar name, spokeswoman Susan O’Cain said.
Lexington 2 School Board members chose the name late Thursday from community suggestions.
