Clemson University freezes tuition and fees for all students in 2020-2021 school year
Clemson University has frozen tuition and fees for the 2020-2021 school year, the school announced Thursday.
The tuition freeze applies to both in-state and out-of-state students, according to a news release. The school has not yet decided whether it will freeze housing and dining fees, the release said.
“This tuition freeze provides a bit of stability for our families during these uncertain times,” President Jim Clements said in a statement.
Tuition alone for in-state undergraduates is $15,558 and $38,550 for out-of-state students, according to Clemson’s website.
Clemson officials cited the coronavirus pandemic, and the ensuing financial harm to students, as the reason for freezing tuition.
“Our Board is keenly aware of the financial impact the coronavirus pandemic is having on many of our students and their families,” Clemson Board of Trustees Chairman Smyth McKissick said in a statement.
COVID-19 is expected to wreak havoc on colleges throughout the country by dampening enrollment and forcing some students online. To defray some of its costs, Clemson has implemented a partial hiring freeze, budget cuts and travel restrictions, according to the release.
