Richland 1 briefly closed a school for cleaning after an employee contracted COVID 19

Richland 1 temporarily closed one of its schools earlier this week for disinfecting after an employee tested positive for coronavirus, officials said.

Burton-Pack Elementary School closed on Wednesday because an employee was showing signs of COVID 19. That employee later tested positive for coronavirus, district spokeswoman Karen York said in an email.

The school was closed only for one day, Aug. 19.

Last week, Richland 1 closed its Stevenson Administration Building for one day to disinfect the building because an employee had been in close contact with a relative who tested positive for coronavirus, York said. However, that employee has since tested negative for coronavirus.

Richland 1 begins classes online only for all students Aug. 31 and will phase-in in-person learning when coronavirus spread begins to slow in Richland County.
