Here are how many COVID-19 cases are in SC K-12 schools as of Sept. 11
Almost 60 more SC students statewide had been diagnosed with COVID-19 at the end of the first week when all school districts across the state were back in class.
The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control released the latest twice-weekly coronavirus case numbers for K-12 schools on Friday. The department is releasing updated numbers every Tuesday and Friday throughout the school year.
There are 296 total COVID-19 cases in S.C. schools, 195 of which are students and 101 are teachers, according to DHEC data.
On Tuesday, DHEC reported 233 total cases, 138 of them students and 95 teachers.
The latest numbers are current as of the end of the day Thursday.
DHEC began publicly tracking data from all of the state’s public and private schools on its website last week.
This was the first week that all school districts in the state resumed classes for the falls semester, although many students are not traveling to a school building every day for in-person classes. Many districts have adopted hybrid plans that alternate students between on-campus instruction and virtual learning.
Even schools that have not begun in-person instruction could report a COVID-19 case. Those cases could arise when a teacher is conducting a remote class from their classroom, or if a student is involved in extracurricular activities on campus, a DHEC spokesperson earlier told The State.
