COVID-19 cases in SC K-12 schools top 400

Coronavirus cases in South Carolina K-12 schools rose to 414, according to new Department of Health and Environmental Control data posted Tuesday.

The 414 cases include 275 students who tested positive and 139 employees, according to DHEC’s online tracker.

The online tracker, which is updated every Tuesday and Friday, includes all public, private and charter schools throughout the state.

While schools with cases tend to have very few and most schools have no cases at all, the dangerous virus has already taken a toll on education and educators in the state.

For example, two employees of Richland 2 — s a Windsor Elementary school teacher and a Spring Valley assistant football coach — died after testing positive for COVID-19.
