A businesswoman, a sheriff and an artist to receive honorary degrees at USC graduation

The University of South Carolina will be awarding several honorary degrees during fall commencement.

McGhee Williams Osse, the co-CEO of Burrell Communications Group; Nigel Redden, an artist who directed Charleston’s Spoleto Festival for 26 years and Richland County Sheriff Leon Lot will all receive the honorary degrees, according to a release from USC. Interim President Harris Pastides will also speak at graduation.

Commencement will be held Monday, Dec. 13, at 2:30 p.m. at Colonial Life Arena, according to the release. USC will award 2,030 degrees during the ceremony.

Williams Osse will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree; Redden will receive an honorary doctor of music and Lott will receive an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree, according to the news release.

USC will also live-stream the commencement ceremony.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said the honorary degree recipients would be speaking at the graduation ceremony. They will not give speeches during commencement.
