Students at Chapin Elementary School were sent home early on Wednesday because of a power outage at the school.

Lexington-Richland 5 announced that the students would be sent home beginning at 10:30 a.m. because power was out at the school on Old Bush River Road.

Buses are running their usual routes several hours early, and parents and after-school programs were being contacted to ensure young students will have supervision once they are released.

Students will have assignments to complete posted online by noon, the district said in an email. The school expects to resume normal operations tomorrow.
