Richland 2 Superintendent issues statement after ‘medical emergency’ ended meeting

A Richland 2 school board meeting ended abruptly Tuesday after Superintendent Baron Davis suffered a “medical emergency,” officials said.

Emergency medical services were called and Davis was “alert and speaking at the time he received medical care,” Richland 2 spokeswoman Libby Roof said in a text message.

The details of Davis’ medical emergency are unclear.

Wednesday morning, Davis issued a statement through a district spokeswoman saying he is at home resting after receiving medical treatment.

“I am writing to personally share that I am doing well after a brief medical incident that occurred during the board meeting on January 11. As a precaution, I received medical aid and was cleared to go home after a very brief visit to the emergency room,” Davis said in the statement.

Davis thanked “outpouring of support and concern” that followed the medical emergency.

After Davis’ emergency, messages on social media poured in wishing him well or asking for people to pray for his recovery.

“We are happy that Dr. Davis is doing okay,” Richland 2 Board Chair Teresa Holmes told The State Wednesday. “We are concerned about his health and we just want him to get some rest and take care of himself.”
