2 Columbia-area high schools among best in SC, U.S. News & World Report 2022 ranking shows
U.S. News & World Report has named two Columbia-area high schools among the best in the state and ranked them higher than they were last year.
Dreher High School and A.C. Flora High School both made the top rankings, a Richland One press release states.
Dreher was ranked seventh in the state this year, compared to ninth last year. A.C. Flora was ranked 21st, compared to 50th a year ago.
Among the schools in the Columbia metropolitan area, Dreher was ranked number one and A.C. Flora got the third place ranking.
“We are grateful for the recognition of excellence at Dreher High School by U.S. News & World Report,” Dreher Principal Dr. Kevin Hasinger said in the press release. “We see it as a direct result of the tremendous academic efforts presented daily by our staff and students, which is especially rewarding given the circumstances presented by the pandemic.”
With a graduation rate of 90%, Dreher received an overall score of 94.3 out of 100 in the report.
Nearly half of the students at Dreher participate in Advanced Placement (AP) coursework and exams, the press release notes.
A.C. Flora has a graduation rate of 91% and received an overall score of 87.4 in the report.
More than half its students participate in AP coursework and exams.
“I am extremely proud that A.C. Flora moved up in the state ranking, while also earning top accolades in the arts and athletics,” A.C. Flora Principal Susan Childs said in the press release. “Flora is truly a school that proudly offers a well-rounded, holistic experience for our students.”
The U.S. News & World Report rankings include data from nearly 24,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia and charter, magnet and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) schools.
