2 seek post on Lexington 4 School Board

Two candidates are seeking to fill a vacancy on the Lexington 4 School Board.

Doris Simmons and former board member Shelia Parkman are vying for the post at a Sept. 15 election. Filing for the nonpartisan race ended Friday.

Parkman is a bank executive, while Simmons operates a tax preparation firm. Both live in Swansea.

The winner will serve two years, succeeding Gregg Riley, who stepped down upon moving from the area.

Board members oversee classrooms in the Gaston-Swansea area of southern Lexington County.
