A part-time instructor at the University of South Carolina’s Union campus is no longer teaching following a social media comment relating to conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Brandon Simpson, who is an adjunct professor and a disabilities coordinator, according to the university’s website, was “relieved of his teaching duties,” USC spokesman Jeff Stensland confirmed, following a “vulgar” post online.

U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace had called out Simpson on social media for a comment he made under a news article about state Rep. Luke Rankin, R-Laurens, moving to rename a road after Kirk.

“The instructor showed a serious lack of professional judgement and has expressed remorse,” Stensland said. “USC Union is committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism in all interactions.”

Stensland did not comment further, as the situation was a “personnel matter.”

Three employees were fired from Clemson University for posts made relating to Kirk, who was killed at an event on Utah college campus on Sept. 10.
