SC elementary school employee investigated by sheriff, district says
A Richland County school employee is no longer on campus after a school district was informed of a law enforcement investigation.
Horrell Hill Elementary School Principal Shannon Adams told families that the school was aware the Richland County Sheriff’s Department was investigating a school employee, according to a March 5 letter.
“We are fully cooperating with law enforcement as they conduct their investigation,” Adams wrote.
The employee is not on campus during the investigation, as a precaution and per district procedures, she said.
“Our staff continues to follow district safety protocols with diligence, and we remain committed to maintaining a secure, supportive, and orderly learning environment for every child,” Adams wrote. “Our focus on teaching and learning will continue without interruption.”
A Richland School District 1 spokesperson said the employee is Brandon Weed, an instructional assistant at the school. The letter did not indicate why he is under investigation. District officials did not share any details of the case.
The State has reached out to the sheriff’s department for more information.
“The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority,” Adams wrote.
