Someone is claiming to fundraise on behalf of Lower Richland High School’s football program. It isn’t legit, district officials say.

Marlin Taylor, the school’s football coach, sent a notice to the Lower Richland football community which was shared on Facebook this week and confirmed to The State by Richland School District 1.

“It has been brought to our attention that an individual has been misrepresenting himself as a Lower Richland football player and attempting to collect money from community members,” Taylor wrote. “This is not affiliated with our program. Please do not give money to anyone claiming to raise funds for Lower Richland Football through door-to-door sales.”

Despite this individual, the team is not currently conducting any fundraisers, through candy sales or otherwise.

If and when the football program conducts official fundraisers, those will be communicated through official school and team channels.

“Thank you for your continued support of Lower Richland Football and for helping us keep our community informed,” Taylor wrote.

A Richland 1 spokesperson said the person involved “has been identified and the problem has been dealt with.” There was no indication whether charges would be sought over the incident.
