The South Carolina Department of Education suspended the teaching license of an educator in Richland School District 1 who was charged with sexual crimes with minors.

Eric Marshall Favor Jr., 29, a teacher at Lower Richland High School, was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, criminal conspiracy and promoting prostitution of a minor in February, The State reported. The arrest followed a 2024 investigation by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office that involved two underage victims.

“The SCDE has reason to believe that, due to the serious nature of these allegations of misconduct, Mr. Favor may pose a threat to the health, safety, and welfare of students, who may be under his instruction and that emergency action is required,” an order of summary suspension read.

The state Board of Education decided that Favor’s arrest illustrated allegations of “unprofessional conduct,” crimes against the law and “evident unfitness for the position for which employed.” Favor’s educator certificate was thus suspended until a due process hearing is held the matter is “otherwise resolved.”

Favor was served notice of the suspension and a possible revocation of his educator certificate, according to the state department.

According to Favor’s suspension order, he had been a teacher for over six years at the time of his arrest.

Favor resigned from Richland 1 on Feb. 10, according to state department documents, though he is still listed as a teacher on the Lower Richland High School website. The State has reached out to the district for more information.
