Lexington 2 has a new superintendent. Here’s how much she’ll be paid
Lexington School District 2, which serves Cayce and West Columbia, has named a new superintendent.
Angela Cooper, who has served as the district’s interim superintendent since February, was unanimously selected by the board at a special called board meeting Tuesday.
“Dr. Cooper has earned state and national recognition as someone who builds relationships, approaches challenges with innovation, and keeps students at the heart of all we do,” school board Chair Kevin Key said in a news release. “Dr. Cooper knows this district and community well, and the board looks forward to continuing to work with her in building a culture of excellence in Lexington Two.”
Cooper first official day as superintendent is July 1.
According to Cooper’s newly executed contract, which was obtained by the state, her term will extend through June, 20 2028, with the option for an extension. She will be paid a base salary of $242,000 and will receive an annual cost of living increase, plus a 2% salary increase each year in which 190-day employees receive step increases. Cooper may also may be entitled to bonuses to be awarded by the board. The district will also annually contribute $18,000 to a tax-deferred investment account of Cooper’s choosing.
The contract also allows for benefits, including standard district insurance, provided technology, travel reimbursement, a $1,500 vehicle maintenance allowance and time off.
Cooper has worked in K-12 education for 25 years, according to a news release, 19 of which were spent with Lexington 2. Prior to her appointment at interim superintendent, Cooper was a superintendent designee and served as the district’s chief human resource and organizational development officer.
Last year, Cooper was selected as the national Personnel Administrator of the Year Award by the American Association of School Personnel Administrators, as well as South Carolina School Administrator of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.
Cooper previously worked as the director of human resources at the Edgefield County School District and as an instructor with Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood County.
She holds a bachelor’s degree from Lander University, a master’s degree from Clemson University and an education doctoral degree from Nova Southeastern University.
“I am deeply honored by the Board’s trust and grateful for the opportunity to continue serving a community that has meant so much to me for many years,” Cooper said in a news release. “We will continue building on the strong foundation already in place, while moving forward with clarity, unity, and a relentless focus on what is best for our children.”
Former Superintendent Brenda Hafner announced her retirement last fall. She led the district for nearly four years following the abrupt departure of former Superintendent Nicholas Wade in 2022.
