USC’s College of Social Work opens in renovated building
The College of Social Work at the University of South Carolina has dedicated a newly renovated building that brings students and faculty together for the first time.
Before the $17.5 million renovation of Hamilton College, the college’s 70 faculty, staff and 600 social work students were scattered among six locations.
Hamilton College, at Pickens and Pendleton streets, was built in 1942 and used as classroom space for an adjoining naval armory. The U.S. Navy had begun extensive training programs at the university, so it was named after Paul Hamilton, a former South Carolina governor who also served as U.S. Secretary of the Navy.
