The search continues for a missing child who fell into a South Carolina river over the weekend, officials said.

The child fell into the Edisto River Sunday, according to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

A search began that afternoon in the area near S.C. 61 and Mars Old Field Landing in Colleton County, South Carolina DNR said.

Officers and dive teams continued to search for the child Monday, according to South Carolina DNR.

Information about the child’s age and gender was not available. There was no word what the child was doing near the river.

Both the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Rescue are assisting in the search.

“DNR used their side-scanning sonar,” Colleton County Fire Rescue Chief Barry McRoy said, according to WCBD. “The Coast Guard also responded with a helicopter and searched the river in the area of the landing with thermal imaging equipment.”

A Colleton County Sheriff’s deputy said the river’s currents and low visibility have limited the search, WCIV reported.
