Authorities are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a truck in Columbia early Friday morning.

The collision occurred near the intersection of Two Notch Road and Atrium Way.

The pedestrian, whose name was not immediately available, was walking north along Two Notch Road when the collision occurred. A truck was crossing through an intersection just before 4 a.m. , state Trooper Lena Butler said in a statement to the media.

Two Notch Road is one of the Columbia area’s busiest thoroughfares, but at that time of the day, typically has light traffic. The area is near the intersection of Two Notch and Interstate 20. The pedestrian died at the scene, the patrol said.

No further details were immediately available, but the Highway Patrol said the traffic-related fatality is under investigation. The driver of the truck, a 2019 Ford Ranger, was not injured, the patrol said.

The Highway Patrol referred other questions to the Richland County Coroner’s Office, which was not immediately available.
