Another SC earthquake rocked the Midlands early Saturday. Here’s where

South Carolina’s seventh earthquake of the year was confirmed Saturday morning.

A 2.57-magnitude earthquake hit near Elgin at around 6:30 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It happened about 1.5 miles below ground, the USGS said.

The previous earthquake was reported Thursday, April 24, also near Elgin in Kershaw County. It, too, happened about 1.5 miles below ground.

This was the seventh confirmed earthquake of 2025 in South Carolina, and the fifth of the year to hit the Midlands.

There were 30 confirmed earthquakes last year in South Carolina, after 28 quakes were recorded in 2023, according to the state Department of Natural Resources.
