IN PHOTOS: Shaw pilots, airmen return from fighting ISIS
The first wave of the 77th Fighter Squadron returned Saturday to Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter after a six-month deployment.
Shaw airmen were deployed in October to conduct operations against ISIS, or Islamic State, insurgents in the Middle East and southwest Asia.
A pilot from Shaw, Capt. William H. DuBois, 30, of New Castle, Colo., died in December when his F-16 fighter jet crashed in Jordan.
The Air Force said the most recent air attacks targeted Islamic State fighters, who have taken over large swaths of Syria and Iraq, and began on Aug. 7.
