Non-combat related death of soldier in Middle East is under investigation, Army says
An investigation is underway into the death of a soldier who was serving in the Middle East, according to a statement from officials at Shaw Air Force Base on Wednesday.
The U.S. Army soldier died of non-combat related injuries, according to officials in command at the military installation in Sumter, South Carolina.
The soldier will be publicly identified after the Army has notified his family.
The soldier was in Jordan, where he was supporting operations in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, officials told The State. Officials said he was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 43rd Air Defense Artillery Regiment.
He was previously stationed at Fort Bliss in Texas, according to officials. He was not from South Carolina and did not serve at Shaw Air Force Base, officials said.
Although further information on the circumstances of his death were not available, Army officials said the soldier did not die from coronavirus, or COVID-19.
