Fort Jackson commander gets a second star
Fort Jackson’s commander, Brig. Gen. Roger Cloutier has been promoted to major general.
Cloutier will receive his second star in a ceremony hosted by the South Carolina’s Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Robert E. Livingston, Jr. 5:15 p.m., July 3, at the post NCO Club. Livingston commands the state’s Army and Air National Guard, according to a press release.
Cloutier became Fort Jackson’s 48th commander on May 29 after serving as the director of Army Force Management in Washington D.C. In his previous post, Cloutier was heavily involved in the process of assessing any upcoming base closures or realignments.
As Fort Jackson’s commanding general, he oversees the Army’s largest basic combat training base. Last year it trained 47,000 new soldier and provided advanced training to another 26,000 service members.
Cloutier was commissioned as an Army infantry officer after graduating from the University of San Diego in 1988. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in international relations.
A career infantryman with multiple combat tours. Cloutier formerly commanded a brigade in the 3rd Infantry Division and was a former deputy commanding general for that division, headquartered at Fort Stewart, Ga.
