New 2-star general takes command of 9th Air Force at Shaw
Maj. Gen. Scott Zobrist is taking over as the new commander of the multi-base 9th Air Force, based at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter.
Zobrist takes over from Maj. Gen. Mark Kelly in a ceremony that begins at 9 a.m Tuesday.
As head of the 9th Air Force, Zobrist will be in charge of eight active-duty wings and three other major units with more than 400 aircraft and 29,000 active duty and civilian workers. He will also be in charge of 16 wings with the Air Force Reserve.
Zobrist comes to Shaw after serving as the deputy commander of the U.S. Air Forces Central Command. He has commanded two fighter wings and has recorded more than 2,500 flight hours.
