SC man claimed winnings with stolen lottery tickets, faces 25 years in prison, fine
A South Carolina man has been arrested and charged for claiming lottery winnings with stolen tickets, according to the State Law Enforcement Division.
Kinyard Maurice Sheppard, 27, was charged with five counts of falsely making, altering, forging, uttering, passing or counterfeiting of a lottery ticket, SLED said.
If convicted, the maximum penalty for each count is 5 years in prison, a $50,000 fine, or both.
The North Charleston man stole scratch-off tickets from one convenience store and returned another store on the same road, along with other lottery vendors in the area to claim money on the winning tickets, according to an arrest warrant.
The case was investigated by SLED at the request of the South Carolina Education Lottery.
Sheppard was taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center in Charleston County.
