After a Sumter man purchased a winning lottery ticket on his way to buy fireworks, he came home with “the good ones,” his wife told the South Carolina Education Lottery, according to a statement.

The family walked away with $250,000 after buying the ticket at McCarthys Emporium LLC on Camden Highway, according to the statement.

The man was playing the $250,000 Wild Cherries game, which has an odds of 1 in 700,000 in winning, according to the statement.

“I hyperventilated,” he told the lottery, according to the statement. “And I called my wife at work.”

His wife didn’t originally believe him, but when he brought home the expensive fireworks, she was convinced, according to the statement.
