Seven-digit winning Mega Millions ticket sold in South Carolina. Check your pockets
A seven-figure prize-winning Mega Millions ticket was recently sold, and now a search is underway for the $1 million prize winner, according to South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
The winning ticket was sold at a supermarket in Lexington, lottery officials said Monday in a news release.
The winning Mega Millions game was bought at the Publix at Hendrix Crossing in the 800 block of U.S. 378, according to the release. That’s about a mile from Lexington High School.
The ticket sold in Lexington matched all five white ball numbers drawn, but fell short of the ultimate jackpot because it didn’t have the same gold Megaball number, officials said.
The winning numbers from last Friday’s drawing were 16, 18, 28, 42, 43 and Megaball: 11.
The winner has 180 days to claim the prize, according to lottery officials.
The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of eight states — along with Delaware, Kansas, Georgia, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio and Texas — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.
The odds of matching all five white balls for the $1 million prize are 1-in-12,607,306, according to the release.
“Sign the back of your ticket and put it in a safe location until you’re ready to come forward to claim the prize,” lottery officials said.

In addition to the $1 million winning game, more than 7,600 other players in South Carolina won prizes in Friday’s drawing, according to the release.
The next Mega Millions drawing will be held Tuesday, when the jackpot is estimated to be $83 million.
