South Carolina woman needed glasses to count all the zeroes on winning lottery game
When a Lexington County woman saw that her scratch-off ticket appeared to be a grand prize winner, she needed some help to take a closer look and be sure her eyes weren’t deceiving her, South Carolina Education Lottery officials said Wednesday.
“I had to put my glasses on,” the winner said in a news release.
Upon closer inspection, the woman confirmed that she had won the $300,000 jackpot, according to the release.
“It was so exciting,” she said.
The woman bought the 100X game for $10 at the Palm Pantry gas station/convenience store on Platt Springs Road. That’s in West Columbia, near the Columbia Metropolitan Airport.
The woman didn’t uncover her six-figure prize until she had returned to the comfort of home. She was relaxing on the front porch when she realized her glasses were needed, lottery officials said.
The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.
The woman hasn’t said how she’ll spend her newfound windfall, only hinting that she’s got some decisions to make, according to the release.
The odds of winning the top prize in the 100X game are one-in-1,000,000, according to the release. Four of the game’s six top prize-winning tickets remain unclaimed, lottery officials said.
The Palm Pantry store received a commission of $3,000 for selling the claimed winning ticket, according to the release.
