Another winning Powerball ticket was sold in South Carolina. Check your pockets
Nobody won the grand prize in Saturday’s Powerball drawing, but someone who bought a ticket in Lexington County came very close, according to South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
A ticket that was one number shy of winning the grand prize was sold at a gas station/convenience store in the Midlands, lottery officials said Monday in a news release. Although the game didn’t hit the jackpot, the ticket buyer will be rewarded with a $100,000 consolation prize, according to the release.
Now the search is on for the ticket buyer.
The six-figure winning ticket sold at the Country Gas Mart at 4932 U.S. 321 in Gaston matched four of the five white numbers and the red Powerball number, lottery officials said.
The winning numbers in Saturday’s drawing were 14, 16, 42, 48, 64 and Powerball: 14.
The winner has 180 days to claim the prize, according to lottery officials.
The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.
The odds of matching four white balls and the red Powerball for the prize are 1-in-913,129, according to the Powerball website.
“Sign the back of your ticket and put it in a safe location until you’re ready to come forward to claim the prize,” lottery officials said.

Country Gas Mart will receive a commission of $1,000 when the winning ticket is claimed and turned in to lottery officials, according to the release.
In addition to the $100,000 winning ticket, somebody else in South Carolina purchased a Powerball game that is now worth $1,000,000 following Saturday’s drawing.
The seven-figure winning game was sold at the Turbeville Exxon at 7585 Myrtle Beach Highway in Gable, lottery officials said. That ticket matched all five white ball numbers, according to the release. Had the game also matched the red Powerball number, it would have made the ticket holder $20 million richer.
With no grand prize winner Saturday, the Powerball jackpot has increased to $34 million for Monday night’s drawing.
Anyone looking to buy a ticket must make a purchase by 9:59 p.m. Monday for the 10:59 p.m. drawing. Tickets are $2, and could cost more with additional options.
The odds of winning Powerball’s grand prize are 1-in-293 million.
