A winning Powerball game was sold at a Publix in South Carolina. Check your tickets
Someone who recently bought a Powerball ticket at a Publix supermarket in South Carolina was one number shy of winning the game’s nine-figure grand prize, South Carolina Education Lottery officials said Monday in a news release.
As a consolation for coming so close and matching all five white numbers in the Oct. 5 drawing, the ticket buyer will be rewarded with a $1 million Powerball prize, according to the release.
Now the search is underway for the winner.
The seven-figure winning Powerball game was sold at the Publix grocery store at 1000 Johnnie Dodds Blvd. in Mount Pleasant, officials said.
The winning numbers in the Oct. 5 drawing were 2, 12, 46, 52, 65 and Powerball: 3.
The odds of matching all five white numbers are 1-in-11,688,054, officials said.
The winner has 180 days to claim the prize, according to lottery officials.
The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.
“Sign the back of your ticket and put it in a safe location until you’re ready to come forward to claim the prize,” lottery officials said.

When the ticket is claimed, the Publix supermarket is expected to receive a commission for selling the winning game.
In addition to the million dollar-winning ticket, more than 13,000 more winning Powerball tickets were sold in South Carolina prior to the Oct. 5 drawing, with prizes ranging from $4 to $1,000,000, according to the release.
With no grand prize winner over the weekend, the jackpot for Monday night’s Powerball drawing has increased to $315 million, officials said.
Anyone looking to buy a ticket must make a purchase by 9:59 p.m. Monday for the 10:59 p.m. drawing. Tickets are $2, and could cost more with additional options.
The odds of winning Powerball’s grand prize are 1-in-293 million.
