Woman now has backup plan after winning seven-figure jackpot on SC lottery game

Winning a $1 million grand prize on a scratch-off lottery ticket was not enough to make a woman leave her job, but it did give her some pause, according to South Carolina Education Lottery officials.

“I’m still working, but it’s nice to know I have a backup plan,” she said in a Thursday news release.

After cashing in the winning game in Columbia, she told officials that she feels like anything is possible now.

Accepting that she’d uncovered such a significant jackpot was a harder task, according to the release.

The woman told officials that she didn’t believe she’d really won, saying it took a couple of days to realize it was true. During that time she said she was speechless, according to the release.

When she regained her ability to talk, and come to terms with the big win, the woman said “it was my lucky day,” according to the release.

The seven-figure winning scratch-off ticket was sold for $10 at the KG Express gas station/convenience store at 103 North Pamplico Highway in the Pamplico section of Florence County, officials said.

The woman didn’t elaborate on her backup plan, or share any information about how she will spend her newfound windfall.

The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.

The woman overcame 1,560,000-to-1 odds to win the grand prize in the Magnificent Millions game. This was the last of the game’s four grand prizes to be claimed, and no more $1,000,000 prizes remain, according to the release.

KG Express received a commission of $10,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
