A winning Powerball game was sold at a 7-Eleven in SC. Check your tickets

Somebody recently bought a Powerball ticket in the Palmetto State which turned out to be a $150,000 jackpot winner, according to South Carolina Education Lottery officials.

The winning Powerball ticket was one number away from capturing the game’s $531 million grand prize, officials said in a news release.

Now a search is underway for the winner.

The six-figure winning ticket was sold prior to Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, according to the release. The Powerball ticket was purchased at the 7-Eleven convenience store/gas station at 4091 Moore Duncan Highway in the Moore area of Spartanburg County, officials said.

The ticket matched four white ball numbers and the red Powerball number, a feat that has odds of 1-in-913,129 of occurring, officials said.

The winning numbers in Wednesday’s drawing were 4, 11, 40, 44, 50 and Powerball: 4.

Because the winner added the PowerPlay option for an additional dollar, the $50,000 prize tripled to $150,000 when a “3” multiplier was drawn, according to the release.

The winner has 180 days to claim the prize, officials said.

The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.

“Sign the back of your ticket and put it in a safe location until you’re ready to come forward to claim the prize,” lottery officials said.

More than 15,000 winning tickets — with prizes ranging from $4 up to the $150,000 jackpot — were sold in South Carolina prior to Wednesday’s drawing, according to the release.

Because nobody won the grand prize on Wednesday, the jackpot for Saturday’s Powerball drawing has increased to $565 million, according to the game’s website.

Anyone looking to buy a ticket must make a purchase by 9:59 p.m. Monday for the 10:59 p.m. drawing. Tickets are $2, and could cost more with additional options.

The odds of winning Powerball’s grand prize are 1-in-293 million.
