Check your tickets. A winning Powerball game was sold at a Quik Trip in SC
The Powerball grand prize has grown to more than $1 billion as nobody was able to win Saturday’s drawing.
But someone in South Carolina nearly walked away with the massive jackpot in a drawing earlier last week. A person who bought a Powerball ticket at a Quick Trip in the Midlands was just one number away from winning all the money, South Carolina Education Lottery officials said in a news release.
For coming so close to winning the Powerball grand prize, the person who purchased the ticket will be rewarded with a $100,000 payday, according to the release.
Now the search is underway for the winner.
The $100,000 winning Powerball game was sold at the Quik Trip gas station/convenience store at 2840 Paxville Highway, according to the release. That’s in the Manning area of Clarendon County.
The winning numbers in the Dec. 10 Powerball drawing were 10, 16, 29, 33, 69 and Powerball: 22.
The odds of matching four white numbers and the red ball number is 1-in-913,129, officials said.
The winner has 180 days to claim the prize, according to lottery officials.
The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.
“Sign the back of your ticket and put it in a safe location until you’re ready to come forward to claim the prize,” lottery officials said.

When the ticket is claimed, the Quik Trip is expected to receive a commission for selling the winning game.
In addition to the $100,000 winning game, a ticket that won a $50,000 prize was sold at a Pitt Stop in Lexington prior to the Dec. 10 drawing, officials said. Another ticket sold before that drawing at a CVS in North Charleston also resulted in a $100,000 jackpot for the buyer, according to the release.
Because there was no grand prize winner Monday night, the jackpot for Saturday’s Powerball drawing has grown to $1.1 billion.
Anyone looking to buy a ticket must make a purchase by 9:59 p.m. Monday for the 10:59 p.m. drawing. Tickets are $2, and could cost more with additional options.
The odds of winning Powerball’s grand prize are 1-in-293 million.
