SC man says he’s done working after winning lottery game’s grand prize
A Midlands man didn’t share his plans on spending a $200,000 jackpot after winning a South Carolina Education Lottery game, but he made it clear what he won’t be doing anymore.
Working.
The man who bought a six-figure winning scratch-off lottery game in Lee County told officials that with his payday he’s going to retire, according to a Thursday news release.
The winning ticket was purchased for $5 at the One Stop Food Mart convenience store in Bishopville, according to the release.
“I was excited,” the man said of realizing he revealed the scratching-off game’s six-figure windfall. “Isn’t everybody?”
The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.
The winner overcame 900,000-to-1 odds to capture the My Money Maker game’s jackpot, according to the release. This was the final of the game’s four top prizes to be claimed, officials said.
One Stop Food Mart received a commission of $2,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
