60-year-old skier dies after colliding with a tree at Colorado resort, police say
A 60-year-old skier died after crashing intoa tree at a Colorado resort, police said.
Ski patrol officials found the man on Dec. 7, lying on the ground unconscious, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said.
The man, a resident of the Nederland area, was on a ski run at Eldora Ski Resort, a ski mountain about 21 miles from Boulder. He had collided with a tree earlier in the day, officials said.
“Ski patrol immediately began first aid and CPR, but their resuscitative efforts were unsuccessful, and the male was pronounced dead in the first aid room,” police said in a news release.
The man appeared to be skiing alone. There is nothing suspicious about the incident, police said.
The skier’s death is the second in one week at Eldora Ski Area, according to police. A 72-year-old skier died Nov. 30 after colliding with a snowboarder, McClatchy News reported.
The resort told The Denver Channel the skier was wearing a helmet and it was not crowded when the two collided.
“We at Eldora offer our deepest sympathies to the skier’s family and friends, and we hold him and them in our thoughts and hearts during this difficult time,” Eldora Ski Area told The Denver Channel in a statement.
The 72-year-old’s death appeared to be the first this ski season at a Colorado resort, The Associated Press reported at the time.
