‘All the blood left my body.’ Man rarely plays lottery — but hits huge jackpot in VA
Virginia Beach resident Hendry Nidham isn’t a frequent lottery player, he told Virginia lottery officials, but he does make an effort to play the state’s New Year’s Millionaire Raffle every year.
This time, it paid off — big time.
Nidham was one of the four people to walk away with $1 million, and he told officials it was almost too good to believe, according to a Jan. 20 news release.
“It was just unbelievable!” he told Virginia Lottery officials. “All the blood left my body. I had to sit down!”
He picked up his lucky ticket at the Harris Teeter at 2800 Arctic Avenue in Virginia Beach, according to lottery officials.
“It feels unreal,” Nidham told officials when he redeemed his prize. “It still hasn’t processed yet.”
Nidham didn’t share how he plans to spend the money.
According to the Virginia lottery, the three other million-dollar tickets were picked up in Alexandria, Chesapeake and Stuarts Draft. The six raffle tickets worth $100,000 were bought in Goode, Hampton, Henrico, Martinsville, Mattaponi and Winchester.
In all, 510 winners were announced for the latest New Year’s Millionaire Raffle, with prizes ranging from $500 to $1 million.
