A 74-year-old man plans to hit the road in a new car after winning big in the Michigan Lottery.

The player, who says he buys lottery tickets twice a week, had recently won $500 — then used those winnings to buy five $150 Million Cash Explosion tickets, according to a news release from Michigan lottery officials.

“I scratched the barcode and scanned each ticket. The first was a $100 winner and the last one said to file a claim,” he told Michigan Lottery. “When I saw that message, I knew it had to be big. I finished scratching the ticket and I was floored when I saw the $4 million prize.”

While he won $4 million, Michigan Lottery says he choice to claim his prize as a “one-time lump sum of about $2.5 million rather than annuity payments totaling $4 million.”

“I’m still in shock and I know it won’t hit me until the check is in the bank,” said the man, who chose to remain anonymous.

He says he plans to share some of the newfound cash with family, buy a new vehicle and travel.

“I can’t believe I won $4 million,” he said.

The winning ticket was sold at Smoker’s Outlet of Warren on Ryan Road, according to the news release. Warren is a suburb north of Detroit.
