A 4-year-old from Alabama killed in a crash after being ejected from the vehicle was not properly restrained in her car seat, police said.

Now, the girl’s mother has been arrested.

Star Adams and her two siblings were inside a SUV when their mother, Kianna Adams, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll multiple times on March 28, in Boerne, Texas, a city about 30 miles northwest of San Antonio, according to a news release from the Boerne Police Department.

Star and her two siblings, an infant and a 2-year-old, were all ejected from the vehicle along eastbound Interstate 10, authorities said.

“The investigation continues to show that the children were not restrained in their car seats and the car seats were not properly secured to the frame of the SUV,” police said in the release.

Star died on the scene and the three other passengers were taken to University Hospital in San Antonio.

“Investigators say the child died due to head trauma, but they also noted the absence of any bruising that would have been caused by a shoulder-mounted seat belt on Star’s shoulders or neck,” ABC reported.

The mother was arrested on March 31 and charged with second-degree felony manslaughter, first-degree felony injury to a child causing serious bodily injury and third-degree felony injury to a child causing bodily injury, according to authorities.

Adams is being held at the Bexar County Detention Center with bail set at $225,000, police say.

On April 3, the family announced on a GoFundMe page that the two children had been released from the hospital and they were all back in Alabama.

Mack Adams, Kianna’s husband, said his wife was on her way back to their home in Foley, Alabama, after visiting family in Arizona with her three children, according to KENS5.

“It’s just unbearable,” Mack Adams told the outlet. “That’s just the way it is.”

“I love my children, I love my husband and my family. Just watch what you say, because you never know if those are going to be your last words to somebody. It’s best to just not fight, and give it to God,” the mother said in a statement through University Hospital, according to KENS5.
