A driverless car was stopped by police before driving off from them in California, a video shows.

The electric self-driving car operated by Cruise is seen in an Instagram video stopping for police in San Francisco.

Police pulled over the car around 10 p.m. on April 1 because its headlights weren’t on, the San Francisco Police Department told McClatchy News.

An officer looked into the vehicle and tried pulling its door handle before walking back to their patrol car, the video shows.

“Ain’t nobody in it,” someone said in the video.

Then the self-driving car dashed off through a light before pulling to the side of the road.

Police followed the car. Three officers were seen walking around the car and looking inside of it.

Officers were able to contact the vehicle’s maintenance team, which took over control of the car, police said.

But not before spectators laughed over the encounter.

Police said a citation was not issued.

Cruise did not immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment.

“Our AV yielded to the police vehicle, then pulled over to the nearest safe location for the traffic stop, as intended,” Cruise tweeted on April 10. “An officer contacted Cruise personnel and no citation was issued.”

The company also tweeted that they work with law enforcement and have given police a number to reach in these kinds of occasions.

The company began offering its driverless service to San Francisco riders in January.
