A 21-year-old died in a motorcycle crash at Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, officials said.

Seth White of Hawai’i Island died Tuesday, April 19, after his motorcycle collided with an SUV near the entrance to the national park, the National Park Service said.

“The fatal collision occurred around 7:52 a.m. when the 2006 Suzuki motorcycle operated by White crashed into a small SUV that was making a left turn into the park,” officials said in a April 20 news release. “White was heading toward Hilo on Highway 11.”

Officials found White unresponsive and taken to Hilo Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

A 65-year-old woman was driving the SUV and the only person in the vehicle at the time, park officials said. No one else was injured in the crash.

The Hawai’i Police Department and officers in the park are investigating the crash.

“Police have determined that speed and inattention are major factors in this incident,” park rangers said. “They are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to contact Officer Jerome Duarte at 808-961-2329.”
