8-year-old, two teens missing after entering the Mississippi River, Coast Guard says
The U.S. Coast Guard is searching the Mississippi River in Louisiana for two missing teens and a missing child.
The three — an 8-year-old female, 14-year-old female and 15-year-old male — were last seen before sunset on Saturday, April 23, entering the river near the Crescent City Connection Bridge in New Orleans, according to a news release from the Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard did not say why the group went in the water.
Multiple boat crews and a helicopter crew with the Coast Guard are searching the area along with the New Orleans Police Department and the New Orleans Fire Department, the release said.
The Algiers ferry service, which was operating on extended hours during the French Quarter Festival, was shut down April 23 as crews searched the water, WWL reported. A shuttle between the east and west banks was provided.
The search continued overnight and into the morning of Sunday, April 24, WVUE reported.
No additional information had been released as of April 24.
