Southern Baptist Convention sets up a hotline for victims of sexual abuse
People who have been sexually abused by Southern Baptist Convention church leaders now have a number to call for help.
On Wednesday, the SBC’s leadership team created a hotline so that survivors can submit allegations of abuse and get information about options for care. Victims will also be put in touch with an advocate.
The hotline can be reached at 202-864-5578 or SBChotline@guidepostsolutions.com.
Guidepost Solutions, the private investigative firm that has examined sexual abuse problems within the Baptist churches, will keep the information confidential and “will not be inquiring into the allegations at this time,” the SBC said in a statement.
The SBC’s Sexual Abuse Task Force will help the executive committee establish “processes for proper inquiries, and this hotline will serve as a resource to survivors and entities in responding properly while we work to put more permanent procedures in place,” the statement said.
