Revival of controversial ‘Cops’ show to feature SC sheriff’s office deputies
A South Carolina sheriff’s office will be featured on the controversial revamped TV show “Cops” for the upcoming season, authorities announced.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office was chosen to be on season 35, which begins filming at the end of June, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
“’COPS’ is one of the longest-running television programs in the United States and their reputation for building strong, creative, and respectful working relationships with law enforcement agencies has helped establish ‘COPS’ as one of the most realistic series focusing on the daily activities of law enforcement personnel,” the release said.
The sheriff’s office has a reason why it wanted to join the show: to help show people what it is like to be a deputy, according to the news release.
The Anderson County episodes will air in the spring or summer of 2023, the news release said. Filming will last for 10 to 12 weeks.
“Cops” was canceled by its original network, Paramount, following the death of George Floyd in 2020, NPR reported. Other shows similar to “Cops,” including “Live PD,” were canceled as well.
Fox Nation picked up the show and began to air it again on Oct. 1, 2021. The announcement brought support from longtime fans and opposition from others.
The show features different law enforcement agencies across the country and across the world, according to the release.
“We are excited for the opportunity to show you, and the world, what it’s like to be a Sheriff’s Deputy in Anderson County,” the sheriff’s office said.
