A man died after he was thrown from his moped, run over by a car and dragged about 30 feet, according to a report from South Carolina police.

Daniel Cooler, 35, of Charleston, was driving his moped on June 16 when he pulled out of a parking lot and “improperly changed lanes,” according to the Charleston County coroner and a crash report from the North Charleston Police Department. A car that was already driving in the lane tried to swerve, but the two vehicles collided.

Cooler was thrown from the moped, the report says.

Another car that was heading in the same direction tried to stop but couldn’t, hitting Cooler, police said. He was pinned beneath the car and dragged, according to the report.

Cooler died at the hospital three days later from blunt force injuries, the coroner said.

Neither of the other two drivers were cited in the crash, North Charleston Police Department public information officer Harvey Jacobs wrote in an email to McClatchy News.
