On a Fourth of July weekend trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain, 8-year-old Evie Evans couldn’t wait to ride Twisted Colossus - her favorite roller coaster at the California amusement park.

But halfway through the ride, something smacked her in the face, Evie told KNBC.

“It was really scary,” Evie said. “I was screaming and crying.”

“She hid her face for a minute and I said, ‘Let me see,’ but it was hard to do on the roller coaster, and as soon as she moved her hand, she was just covered in blood,” mom Della White told KABC.

Another person on the roller coaster had lost his phone, which flew back and struck Evie between the eyes, the family told KTTV. She required 10 stitches.

“Our ride safety policy strictly prohibits all loose articles on rides,” Six Flags Magic Mountain said in a statement to KABC. “Safety is a partnership between our guests and the park, and guests must follow all written and verbal instructions for safe riding.”

A man looking for his lost phone after the ride told the family Evie’s injury wasn’t “a big deal” and then walked away, KNBC reported.

Josh Evans, Evie’s father, told KTTV he’s frustrated because the park won’t give him the man’s name and police declined to take a report because losing a phone isn’t a crime.

“You are not supposed to leave,” Evans told KNBC. “I thought it was illegal, just like a hit-and-run.”

He called on the phone’s owner to come forward and help pay Evie’s medical bills.

Six Flags Magic Mountain is an amusement park in Valencia, north of Los Angeles.
