Three children trapped in a sinking pickup truck at a Summit County reservoir were rescued, with one listed in extremely critical condition, Utah authorities reported.

The truck rolled off a boat ramp into Smith and Morehouse Reservoir with the children inside about 5:20 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, while a family loaded kayaks into it, KUTV reported.

Two children, ages 2 and 9, were pulled from the sinking truck, but a second 9-year-old boy was trapped underwater for 10 minutes before being rescued, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office reported on Twitter.

The second boy is in “extremely critical condition,” sheriff’s officials said.

The children’s grandfather pulled the 2-year-old girl from the truck and the other 9-year-old boy escaped on his own, KSTU reported. A nearby kayaker rescued the second 9-year-old boy. The pickup truck was found in 20 feet of water.

Smith and Morehouse Reservoir is about 30 miles northeast of Park City.
